What Is Engine Carbon Build Up?

Engine carbon build up occurs when combustion by products accumulate inside the engine. Carbon deposits commonly form on: Intake valves Pistons Intake manifolds Turbochargers EGR systems Diesel particulate filters (DPF) This is especially common in direct fuel injection carbon build up systems because fuel no longer washes over the intake valves like older port injection engines. Common Causes of Carbon Build Up Short trips Poor quality fuel Stop-and-go driving Oil vapors from PCV systems EGR recirculation High mileage Turbocharged engines Modern GDI and TSI engines are highly prone to carbon build up engine issues.
